How RFID Tags Reshape Retail Scenarios Amid the AI Wave — Apparel and Jewelry

From clothing stores to beauty counters, RFID tags in diverse forms are penetrating every link of retail operations.

Apparel

A Taiwanese apparel chain with over 150 stores faced typical pain points: inventory checks required half-day store closures, manual logging was prone to errors, and delayed inventory data led to restocking hold-ups. After rolling out RFID smart inventory devices, full-store merchandise scanning can be completed rapidly by a small team, cutting inventory time by more than 70%. More importantly, real-time RFID data fuels AI-powered restocking.

Italian menswear brand Boggi Milano has integrated AI into its restocking workflow since 2019. However, its original inventory accuracy stood at only around 90%, failing to meet the data requirements of the AI system. Following RFID deployment, inventory accuracy at selected stores jumped above 99%, enabling AI to accurately identify product demand across outlets and automatically generate allocation recommendations.

Woven Label Tags & Hang Tag Labels

RFID woven care labels used in production withstand more than 20 industrial wash cycles. Sewn inside garments, they resist detachment and support inventory management across the full product lifecycle. RFID hang tags for in-store use facilitate rapid stocktaking, loss prevention and a smoother self-checkout experience.

Jewelry

Traditionally, jewelry RFID tags serve security purposes: the tag becomes invalid if removed improperly. Smart jewelry trays extend RFID’s capability into sales analytics. Developed jointly by AsReader and PT Next, the Argos smart tray features built-in RFID reading. The moment a customer picks up or puts back any jewelry piece from the tray, the system logs how many times that SKU has been viewed.

Aggregated data allows AI to uncover counterintuitive insights: conversion rates for the same item can vary drastically between stores. One high-end jewelry event revealed strong conversion performance in three out of four showrooms, while the fourth underperformed. The root cause was basic commercial lighting of the type found in hardware stores. RFID delivers precise behavioral data, and AI turns raw data into actionable insights.

Frangible Jewelry Tags

Engineered for high-value ornaments to enable counter-level anti-theft monitoring. Frangible variants add anti-counterfeiting protection: the tag breaks upon unauthorized removal, delivering dual security safeguards for premium goods.

Beyond faster inventory checks and lower labor costs, RFID unlocks tremendous value in anti-counterfeiting traceability, asset protection and shopper experience. As technology keeps evolving, RFID will unlock far more possibilities for the retail sector.
